Perfecting Piano Actions for Steinway Concert

Posted on 13th November 2024

This week, I had the pleasure of working on two Steinway piano actions for client rebuilds: a Steinway B and a Steinway D concert grand. Crafting the actions to perfection is both an art and a science, requiring meticulous attention to detail to bring these pianos back to their peak performance.

As I work through each component, I focus on checking flange levels, ensuring that all spacing is consistent, and keeping everything perfectly aligned. Achieving this precision in piano repair is therapeutic; there’s a deep satisfaction in knowing that every piece is balanced and ready to deliver that signature Steinway sound.

Every step in preparing these piano actions is crucial, with no corners cut. Proper preparation ensures that the rebuilt pianos meet the quality standards Steinway is known for and provide an exceptional experience for the musicians who rely on them. Taking the time to do it right guarantees these pianos will produce concert-quality sound, just as intended.
